Personal Review:
I really grew up on Rod Stewart, my mom was (is) a huge fan of him and went to a whole bunch of his concerts back in the day, a few years ago I got a whole bunch of his records for Christmas (basically almost every one that I own.) and well, here is one of them!
The album opens with the song “Tonight’s the Night” – and hey, we’re starting on a good note, it’s a song I know and like, and it’s a great way to open the album, Rod Stewart is a really good singer and this is a great chill song. This has to be one of Rod’s best tracks, I absolutely love it. Next up is another great Rod song, “The First Cut is the Deepest” which opens with some really great guitar playing before Rod begins to sing, and as he does, you have no room to complain on such a great song. The guitar playing is just amazing. After that comes the track “Fool for You” and it starts off a little slow, and now we’re onto the part of the album where none of these songs are ones that I know, but hey, I like it so far! Then comes “The Killing of Georgie (Part I & II)” and well, we’re off to a rather good start with this album, I’m liking this a lot. I’m not really sure what this song is about, but hey! I like it. Okay, so according to searches, the song is about a homosexual man who is murdered. Oh. This is also how the A-Side closes, we’re now onto the second part of the song, which is much slower than the more upbeat first part.
“The Balltrap” opens the B-Side and Rod Stewart is just an overall really great singer, I’ve enjoyed every song on this album so far, it’s such a good album. I love the music on this track, and Rod’s vocals and lyrics are superb. “Pretty Flamingo” comes next, and once more the musicianship on this track is absolutely great, and Rod has superb vocals, his songs are just so wonderful, I know get why my mom saw him so many times in concert. “Big Bayou” comes next, and once more we’re greeted with another hit from Mr. Rod Stewart, the musicianship rocks, his vocals are great, everything on this album is absolutely great. No complaints here! Then comes “The Wild Side of Life” and well, once more we get great guitar playing from Rod Stewart’s backing band. The vocals provided by Rod Stewart are simply amazing, one cannot even begin to say how great they are. It’s a great song, and the guitar playing is amazing. The album closes with ever-so-slow “Trade Winds” which the album was good up til this song, and well, at least the rest of the album was good.
