Personal Review:
We’re listening to Bowie today.”Pin-Ups” to be exact, which is an album of covers by Bowie.
The album opens with Bowie’s version of The Pretty Thing’s “Rosalyn” which Bowie is just so boss at delivering, it’s one of those songs you imagine him running around on stage singing loudly. Then it cuts right into Bowie’s version of “Here Comes the Night” (Originally recorded by Them) – which is one of my ultimate favorites on this album. The album itself is pretty good. It’s followed up by the Yardbirds “I Wish You Would” – which features some pretty badass guitar playing, Bowie’s vocals are basically off the wall for this track. Not many people can do what Bowie does, all the different voices while singing and stuff. “See Emily Play” comes next, which is originally by Pink Floyd – when they still had Syd Barrett, (I can’t remember which other album I own that has this song on it. The song itself is pretty great. No complaints on that! Though, that violin playing at the end is pretty cool! Next up is The Mojos “Everythings Alright” which doesn’t start off too well, in my opinion, but Bowie rips into and boom! The song is great! The A-Side ends with a cover of the Who’s “I Can’t Explain” (which is amazing as it is by the Who) Bowie delivers the song so greatly, that you would swear it was his own song! It’s pretty great.

The B-Side opens with The Easybeats “Friday on My Mind” – which is pretty great, Bowie is so talented it’s wonderful. The chorus is pretty wonderful too. Next up is the Mersey’s “Sorrow” – which is another personal favorite of mine on this album. Bowie takes very little effort to make a fan out of anyone, and with that he’s pretty amazing. The song is great, especially the sax playing. I love sax. Then it’s back to a Pretty Things song, with “Don’t Bring Me Down” – which is pretty cool sounding, the musicianship is great and all the different tricks Bowie and his band use to make everything sound different is pretty cool! Followed by another Yardbirds song – “Shapes of Things“, which is pretty great. Bowie does all these neat vocal tricks during the chorus which make everything sound cool, then the really amazing jam session in the middle of the song is so cool. Then back to the Who with “Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere” which is another amazing song, both by the Who and Bowie. It’s really neat hearing Bowie sing songs written by others, and not his own work. The album ends with the Kinks (yes.) “Where Have All the Good Times Gone!” – which, the Kinks are just the greatest, but then Bowie covering them is absolutely amazing. The album closes on a good note.
