Personal Review:
Growing up I remember hearing the song “We Got the Beat” and instantly fell in love with the Go-Go’s, from there on I began to hear more and more of their stuff until I finally got one of their albums, of course, it does not have my favorite Go-Go’s song on it (“Vacation“) – but it does open with my second favorite…
“Our Lips Are Sealed” opens the album. The bass playing is the best part of this song, then the vocals, because those deserve some recognition too. Then comes that slow, sort of spoken word part of the song, you know the “Hush, my darling…” part, then it goes back into the regular part of the song. The Go-Go’s were pretty sweet back in the 80’s. “How Much More” comes next, and it kind of has really nice sort of punk maybe surf punk beat to it? I love surf punk. “Tonite” comes next, and it’s a pretty cool song, I do love the vocalization, the music is always amazing for the Go-Go’s, there is no word of doubt there. “Lust to Love” comes back, and I swear Images in Vogue had a song like that? Maybe just the title, because it’s nowhere near the same. The song is pretty good, and I’ve enjoyed the album so far. Then the A-Side closes with “This Town” and it makes for a good ending track, not bad at all. I’m definitely loving this album.
The B-Side immediately goes right into the Go-Go’s most famous track, “We Got the Beat” – it’s basically the song that everyone knows them for and that made them. I don’t know about everyone else, but I think the Go-Go’s are pretty rad. “Fading Fast” comes next, and this song is another great song, it starts off slow, then boom – it gets amazing. It’s pretty cool. This song is pretty deep. Then comes “Automatic” it’s a bit slow, and it gives me the feeling that there should be a build up to something, but it’s a lot better on the musicianship level. Then comes “You Can’t Walk in Your Sleep (If You Can’t Sleep)” and that is a really, really odd title, but the song is pretty good, I love the fact that all of them sing at once on certain songs, it’s pretty great. The musicianship is pretty great too. Then comes “Skidmarks on My Heart” and that title is just a bad title, I do not want skidmarks on my heart. Or anywhere else on me. (I know it is most likely referring to tire skid marks.) the song is pretty good though. “Can’t Stop the World” ends the album. It’s a pretty good ending track to a pretty good album. Yup, not a bad ending track at all.
