Personal Review:
So, I know of the Pretenders for basically one song – and that song is this. So, here is to broadening my Pretenders song knowledge!

I, of course, naturally chose an EP to start my introduction to this band, as I’ve had bad experiences in the past. The album opens with the song “Message of Love” – and well, to me, it starts off a bit rough, I feel it could’ve had a better opening, but Chrissie does have quite a good voice. The song does pick up about half way through though! It’s actually not all that bad, I just don’t really like the musicianship. After that comes “Talk of the Town” and unlike the previous track, this song is better in the grounds of musicianship. Not too much to complain about, the vocals are good and the song isn’t terrible. The chorus is absolutely terrific! This song isn’t bad at all! The A-Side ends with the track “Porcelain” which has some pretty intense guitar playing in it, and the drumming is off the wall! The vocals aren’t that bad, they are very few and seldom, but not overly terrible. The musicianship is the best of this song, it’s so intense!

The B-Side opens with “Cuban Slide” – and it’s okay, it’s nothing overly special – musically speaking, the vocals are pretty good and some of the guitar playing is neat – but I definitely prefer “Porcelain” over this song. As the song progresses though, it seems to grow on me more and more, and it’s not that bad, still not a crucial part to this listening experience, I think it’s just Chrissie’s vocals doing it for me. The EP ends with a live version of the song “Precious” and well, it’s pretty fast paced, and how the band keeps saying “preeeeecious” is kind of annoying, but Chrissie does have pretty good vocals, she is definitely one of the talented women of rock music.
