Alison Moyet – “Invisible / Hitch Hike”
After the break-up of Yazoo (I refuse to call them Yaz), powerhouse vocalist Alison Moyet released her first solo album, “Alf” which was titled after a childhood nickname. Though I will also prefer her work with Yazoo, the song “Invisible” is just one of those songs that really sticks with you.
The A-Side is the song, “Invisible” and it starts with some drum beats and Alison’s powerful vocals, the woman can really hit those high notes with her beautiful sultry voice. The song itself is a wonderful song about something that we’ve all felt in a relationship, and over 40 years later it’s lyrics are still so relevant.
The B-Side is a cover of the Marvin Gaye song “Hitch Hike” and it’s kind of got that doo-wop sound to it, with Darts providing the backing vocals, and the funk sound to the musicianship and Alison delivers her super powerful vocals, personally though, it’s not my most favorite of Alison’s solo work, the musicianship is great, the vocals are great but the song itself just isn’t something that I can really get into.
In the end, I love Alison’s vocals and all that she does. If the B-Side would’ve been “For You Only” maybe that would’ve made things different.
