Eddie Bond – “Buford’s Pattern of Numbers / Twelfth of August”

Eddie Bond was a country singer and guitar player, he is considered to be one of the pioneers of Rockabilly music. He recorded and toured with such artists as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison & Johnny Cash. He is also famously known for rejecting a then unknown 18 year old Elvis from his band. The first track on this 45 refers to Buford Pusser, the man who is the inspiration of the movie, “Walking Tall“
“Buford’s Pattern of Numbers” is the A-Side, and we get some nice guitar playing and Eddie singing about Buford’s life and all the numbers in his life that refer back to the number twelve. It’s a got a catchy beat. The song is short, but in the short time it plays, it gives us the breakdown and story of Buford’s life.
The B-Side is the song “Twelfth of August” which opens with some brass horns, and I believe this song tells the story of of Buford and his wife were attacked, which lead to the death of his wife. The song definitely talks about the ambush in which him and his wife were shot. It’s got a better beat, some nice bass as opposed to the A-Side, and I’m liking this track more than the A-Side. Eddie has some pretty good vocals as well. The brass horns are a really nice touch.
