Gary Glitter – “Superhero / Sleeping Beauty”

On the grounds of Gary’s, Gary Glitter is a genuine awful person. Musically, I know two songs by him, one of which is the classic “Rock N’ Roll (Parts I & II)” and being his version of “Do You Wanna Touch Me” – the answer is always no. Back in my early days of collecting, this was one of my first 12″ singles, check the “wonderful” Value Village price tag on that beautiful front sleeve. Another for the books.
So, the A-Side is “Superhero” and we go right into that funk disco sound, lots of bass and drums, the beat is good. Gary begins to sing, and it’s not really my thing at all. I’m not very big on disco to begin with, I will say the chorus – which doesn’t feature Gary – is pretty good though. The rest of the song is kind of bleh. Besides the chorus, the song kind of lacks any redeemable quality.
“Sleeping Beauty” is the B-Side, and let’s hope that this song doesn’t put me to sleep. We get that funky bassline, Gary’s vocals come in, and you know what, comparably to the A-Side, this one is definitely the better of the two songs, but it also doesn’t really have anything special to it.
In the end, not something I’d recommend. I give it 2 out of 5, based on the sleeve design and the chorus on the first song.
