Personal Review:
It has been a looooong five or six months since I’ve last posted anything here, and I didn’t want all y’all to think that I’ve abandoned VAoT, so I decided I try to get some reviews in while I have the opportunity to sit down and actually work on the site. This one has been a long time want list item for me, not so much for the artist, or the song, but mainly for the picture sleeve, which my copy does not include. So, let’s give ‘er a whirl!
The A-Side is a track titled “Hold On! I’m Coming” – and it opens with a juicy bass-line, and some keyboards and guitar playing, definitely has that funk, r&b sound to it, which you wouldn’t guess from that picture sleeve, the singer starts, and his voice is pretty good. Fun fact, the song was co-written by Isaac Hayes. It’s a pretty good song, I’m definitely glad I picked this one up. I wish these guys had recorded more, because this is a pretty good track.
“In the Midnight Hour” is the B-Side, and well, much like the A-Side it’s a pretty steady funk track, and the vocals on this 45 are superb. These guys are pretty good. The musicianship on this single is pretty good, and there is not much one can complain about when it comes down to this.
