Welcome Home – “In This Life / Top of the World”

So, back in 2015 I found myself lucky enough to find a copy of Welcome Home’s “Ladies and Gentlemen” EP and did a little posting of it. 2 years ago, I found myself lucky again to be fortunate enough to come across Blizz Neurolick on Facebook – after discussing our mutual love of music, he was kind enough to provide me with a copy of his 1987 single, “In This Life / Top of the World” – I immediately took pictures of it upon receiving it in hopes of writing about it on here, but as most of you know, the site has been virtually dead for two years and I’m trying to get back into it and restore it to the glory days.
The A-Side opens with “In This Life” and it’s got some nice bass and synth tones, very reminiscent of their release “Ladies and Gentlemen” – it’s a good song, and it seems to have some pretty deep lyrics but really gets me on this one is that guitar solo. That really makes it for me.
The B-side is “Top of the World” and it starts off with that fast drum beat, that’s very close to the Go-Go’s “We Got the Beat” – but the guitar and the vocals make all the difference, it’s fast paced, the vocals are delivered perfectly. The chorus is great. I am definitely enjoying the pacing of this one. They got the drum machine and all these effects going over the guitar solo, and I like how experimental it sounds before we go into the final verse before closing out the song with a repeat of the chorus. Fantastic work.
Thank you Blizz for my copy!
